WWNC – Russian forces have moved up to 2 kilometers (1.24 miles) into the strategically significant eastern town of Bakhmut over the past week, according to a British intelligence report released on Monday.
According to a routine statement posted on Twitter by the UK Ministry of Defence, “Russia continues to put top priority to its own offensive operations in the central Donbas region, especially close to the town of Bakhmut.”
Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the president of Ukraine, stated in a televised address on Saturday that Ukrainian troops were engaged in fierce combat close to Bakhmut.
Bakhmut is located on a major route that connects the industrial Donbas region’s cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, both of which Moscow has yet to fully annex.
