The Sangke River will be mostly drained by the Battambang province government in order to improve the river’s ecosystem and riverbanks.
Sok Lou, the governor of Battambang, recently stated that in order to improve the environment at the river’s bottom, the government is prepared to drain the majority of the Sangke River into the Tonle Sap.
Early January will see the professional officer’s repair and draining of a portion of the river.
Lou urged the local authorities in five districts along the river, including Battambang, Banan, Sangke, and Ek Phnom districts, with the goal of enhancing the river’s attractiveness. Lou also encouraged citizens to be involved in the effort.
Additionally, he urged everyone to maintain cleanliness, refrain from discarding the trash in Stung Sangke or nearby lakes and canals, and promote tourism in order to enhance the community’s image and prevent the spread of disease.
