Iran has recently refused to hold an informal meeting with the United States and other powers to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal, insisting Washington must lift its unilateral sanctions first. “Thinking about the recent actions and statements made by the United States and the three European powers, Iran does not consider it’s time to hold an unofficial meeting with these countries at the request of the EU foreign policy chief,” said Saeed Khatibzadeh, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry. The United States said it is disappointed but is ready to reunite in meaningful diplomacy and will consult with other major powers to find a way forward.
