BEIJING — Five of the seven victims of the massacre, the second of two shooting sprees in California in recent days, were Chinese citizens, according to the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco.
The Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco reported that a shooting in the Californian community of Half Moon Bay claimed the lives of five Chinese people.
Seven people lost their lives in the Half Moon Bay incident on Monday, which was the second of two recent shootings in California in which there were also 18 fatalities.
According to a spokesman, “The Consulate General is in connection with the relevant U.S. authorities to follow up on the progress of the inquiry.” The Consulate General also strongly condemned the violence, the spokesperson said.
Chunli Zhao, a 66-year-old Chinese immigrant farm laborer, was the only suspect in the shootings at two mushroom fields in the seaside town in northern California.
During his initial court appearance in nearby Redwood City on Wednesday, he was formally charged with seven charges of murder and one count of attempted murder.
