A mother moose and her twins made themselves at home in an Alaskan man’s garden, creating a cozy little resort for themselves.

Roland Rydstrom, a resident of Anchorage, Alaska, was in for a truly heartwarming surprise one June morning. As he opened his blinds, he was greeted by an unusual sight: a mother moose and her two adorable twins had made his garden their own.

The moose family had been spotted in the neighborhood before, but this was the first time they had chosen Rydstrom’s yard as their oasis. The mother and her calves would spend hours lounging in the sun, their silhouettes casting long shadows across the grass.

Rydstrom, a wildlife enthusiast, was thrilled by the unexpected visitors. He watched them from his window, marveling at their grace and beauty. “They would just change positions and, as you can tell from the pictures, they just kind of moved around to meet the sun—the babies in particular,” Rydstrom told The Dodo.

While he was careful to respect their space, the moose family seemed to feel comfortable in Rydstrom’s presence. At one point, one of the calves even knocked over a marigold pot, seemingly enjoying the sensation of scratching its head on the ceramic.

The moose family visited Rydstrom’s garden twice, leaving and returning as if they had planned a two-day vacation. Their playful antics and gentle demeanor filled Rydstrom’s heart with joy. “They got up at some point and walked away and I thought they’d be gone, but they came back and did it again,” Rydstrom said. “They tasted everything on their way out, and do what babies do, putting everything in their mouth.”

Rydstrom’s unexpected encounter with the moose family was a testament to the beauty and wonder of nature. It was a reminder that even in the heart of a bustling city, wildlife can find solace and companionship. The moose family’s visit brought a sense of peace and tranquility to Rydstrom’s life, and it is a memory that he will cherish forever.

As for the moose family, their brief stay in Rydstrom’s garden was likely a temporary respite from their usual routine in the nearby woods. It is impossible to know for sure, but one can only hope that they found as much joy in their visit as Rydstrom did.
